Michael C. Bowling, CFA, and president of Beechwood Capital Management, Inc., has over 25 years experience working with investments. His career began at the age of seventeen while still in high school, completing partnership tax returns and analyzing convertible bond investments. Throughout college he worked part-time for Bowling Portfolio Management, Inc. (BPM) and in 1990 graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a double major in Finance and Real Estate, for which he completed senior research on closed-end investment companies. After graduation, he began his full-time investment career.
Over the next four years, Michael earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA) from the Association for Investment Management and Research (now the CFA Institute). In 1994, upon completion of the CFA program, he was promoted to vice president of BPM. He then returned to college at night for a second degree, a BS in Applied Mathematics. By 1998 he was co-managing more than 600 accounts with combined assets over $300 million.
In the summer of 1998, Michael left BPM to pursue full-time graduate work in Applied Statistics and Computational Finance at the University of Cincinnati. In the spring of 2001 he completed his MS and began managing investments again by forming his own company, now called Beechwood Capital Management, Inc.
Michael has always valued education. His personal library on investments contains over 600 volumes. He taught part-time for several years in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Cincinnati as a teaching assistant, tutor, as well as a mathematics instructor; and continues to teach part-time for Xavier University in their nationally ranked MBA program. In 2009 he was named Professor of the Year by the Xavier's West Chester MBA program. In addition, each year since being awarded the CFA designation, he has earned the CFA Institute Professional Development Certificate of Achievement.
When not working, Michael spends much of his time volunteering. He is actively involved with his church, and has volunteered with Young Life, a nondenominational Christian outreach, for over 25 years. His hobbies include working out, reading science, and doing mathematics just for the fun of it!
